Puzzle 364 (Kakuro (Star Battle))

This puzzle was made for WPC "prep" (the word "prep" is in quotes because I didn't attend myself).  It combines Kakuro and Star Battle in a very natural way, and I'd like to see more of the type.  That said, this puzzle is pretty tough, so beware.

Rules: Place the indicated number of stars per row and column so that no two stars touch, even diagonally. Then enter digits 1–9 into all remaining cells of the grid so that no digit repeats in any of the “words” across and down. Clues denote the sum of digits in each of the words. Cells with stars should not be counted into the sums.

Puzzle 152 ("Medium Nikoli" Series, Kakuro)

The next puzzle in this series is a Kakuro, possibly one of the most controversial genres in the list.  Kakuro is already a polarizing genre -- extending its size to 15x15 makes it even more so.

The Nikoli style of Kakuro is very different from the style of Kakuro often seen on puzzle contests.  These puzzles focus more on Kakuro as a crossword genre rather than a mathematical genre.  More emphasis is placed on common number patterns and crossword logic; arithmetic is often kept to a minimum.  I tried my best to replicate this style in this puzzle, and I think I succeeded for the most part.

I personally believe that these puzzles are easiest to solve on paper; having eyes on the entire board at once (and, in particular, having smaller cells overall) feels better to me.  Thus, I've attached a PDF version of the puzzle closer to Nikoli's style.  I recommend printing this out to solve, but Penpa and puzz.link options are also here as usual.  The numbers were a pain in the butt to format; I'm probably not doing this again.  Nikoli, please don't sue me for forgery.  😛

Here's a Kakuro puzzle.  I originally wrote this a few months ago, intending to use it for some other project, but after coming back to the puzzle I decided it wasn't necessary.

IPC 2021 Puzzles

I got to write a few puzzles for the Indian Puzzle Championship this year!  Thanks to Prasanna for allowing me to write puzzles (bold move for a contestant to recommend constructors!).

PANFOPCWHTTAPA Puzzles

Breaking from the usual numbering system on my blog to dump the puzzles I made for PANFOPCWHTTAPA!  This was a contest I and a few other constructors from the CTC Discord created over the past month or so; these puzzles were intended for beginners, and I think we succeeded for the most part.

Puzzle 82 ("Surrounded", Kakuro (Double))

Time for a Kakuro variant!  First one on this blog, I believe.

Rules (cf. GMPuzzles): Variation of Kakuro. The gray (2×2) cells are to be filled by a single digit which sits in multiple rows and columns. No digits can repeat within an entry, regardless of if it is in a small or large cell.

I'd personally recommend printing or taking a screenshot of this one, since the interface for Double Kakuro isn't the best.  However, if you want to use Penpa, place the digits in the dashed circles when solving.
