Puzzles 89 and 90 (Cross the Loop)

Last night in the Puzzler's Club discord, Will Cadegan-Schlieper casually mentioned the idea of a "CTS-like Loop" genre -- that is, Cross the Streams style clues being used to draw a loop instead of shading squares like a nonogram.  (In essence, this is analogous to the difference between Tapa and Tapa-like Loop.)  I immediately jumped on to the idea and created these two puzzles.  The first one was a testing ground on a small grid, while the second one was the "main" puzzle I wanted to create.  Both turned out quite well, and while I'm not sure "Cross the Loop" is a sustainable genre (uniqueness is tricky without a lot of clue packing), I do like the puzzles I've created and think they're worth sharing 🙂.

Rules.   Draw a single closed loop (without intersections or crossings) passing through some empty cells in the grid.  Numbers to the left/top of the grid represent the lengths of all loop segments which are in that row/column in order, either from left to right or from top to bottom.  A question mark (?) represents a loop segment whose size is unknown (but greater than zero); an asterisk (*) represents any number of unknown groups of black cells, including none at all.  Segments perpendicular to the row/column are considered segments of length zero and are not tallied in the row and column clues.

Puzzle 88 ("Oh Five", Hebi-Ichigo)

Have a silly little Hebi-Ichigo puzzle 🙂.  This is a cute type that I want to explore more at some point.

This puzzle was constructed pretty quickly, mainly just from me playing around with the puzz.link interface.  I mainly wanted to see if I could get this specific theme to work.  I'm quite pleased with how this turned out; it's not a mind-blowing puzzle or anything, but I think some of the interactions here are cute.

Puzzle 87 ("Sun", Kurotto)

First Kurotto on this blog!  Despite being a math-oriented person, I still don't feel like I really know how to write Kurotto.  This example in particular took 1.5 - 2 hours, I think, and a bit of tweaking was necessary after my first draft to make it unique.  This means there's probably a bit of roughness to this puzzle, but for my first one I'm decently happy with it. 🙂

PANFOPCWHTTAPA Puzzles

Breaking from the usual numbering system on my blog to dump the puzzles I made for PANFOPCWHTTAPA!  This was a contest I and a few other constructors from the CTC Discord created over the past month or so; these puzzles were intended for beginners, and I think we succeeded for the most part.

Puzzle 86 (Akari)

Have another Akari puzzle!  Writing 10x10 is quite a different experience from writing 10x18 Akari, IMO; the latter grid gives you a lot of space to play around with lightbulbs, but in a 10x10 you need to use the given space more wisely.

My Akari construction preferences are very much Nikoli-style (that is, smoothness over difficulty), definitely more so than other genres.  This one isn't much of an exception.
